CHAT - Help
____________
Subcommands: Node [#], [T]oggle Availability, [H]elp, [Enter] = None
[#] any other active Node Number.
[T] will toggle your availability for chat either on or off.
[H] displays this help file.
[Enter] exits chat mode.
By typing CHAT at the Main Command Prompt places you in a keyboard
conversation with one or more users on other nodes of the BBS. Chat
is NOT available from the files system.
To CHAT with another online, simply type CHAT and that node's number.
Do not type your own Node Number. If you only wish to see who else
is online, type WHO.
If your toggle your availability to off, no other node will be able
to page you.
Once in CHAT, the following Sub-Commands are available:
[Q]uit, [S]tatus, [H]elp
[Q] Quits CHAT
[S] Displays the status of the various Nodes.
[H] displays this help file.
To use one of the above commands, simply type the command letter
as the first character on a line, and press [Enter].
CHAT - Tips
____________
The number 1 point to remember while chatting with another person
is to BE PATIENT!
You will not be able to see what the person on the other node is
typing until that person finishes a sentence and presses [Enter].
Since all people do not type at 60 wpm, patience IS necessary and
required while chatting.
An end of response signal should be agreed upon between the
people engaged in chat. If you need to type 5 lines the other
person should agree to not interrupt you until you give the
"go ahead". "ga" is a good way to say, "I'm finished typing, your
turn now. Alternately, a single blank line entered as an end of
typing signal will do just fine.
The point is, the other user must know that you are finished typing
so he/she knows when to begin.
If you initiated the Chat, be aware that sometimes it takes awhile
to get the other person's attention. Your chat request is sent
to the other person as soon as possible. If you need to know if
the other person has indeed received your request to chat, type
'S' while inside Chat, and you will see the status display. If
the other person has been notified, their status will say "Chat
Request Sent", otherwise it will say "Chat Request Pending".
Be warned that GAP will count the number of times you press [Enter]
on a blank line. Too many of those will get you thrown out of Chat,
as a protection for the sysop.
